Rocket Ship!!

Oh what a funny, funny girl I have. This past Sunday evening, after visiting her cousins Jayden and Mya (side note > she calls both of them JaydenMya...one name to encompass both of them...he he), we drove home right under the flight path for landing airplanes at the Toronto airport.

Emmy LOVES airplanes. If there is one in the airspace above us, she will hear it or see it, no matter how far away it may be. There have been many times that she pointed out an airplane to us that we had trouble seeing, due to it being "way up high", as she says.

We parked our little familymobile in a parking lot right under the landing area and watched a bunch of airplanes come in for their landing about 100 feet above us. They were SO close to us and little Emmerson's face lit up with astonishment every time one of of the planes came in for its landing - she mistook one of the really large planes for something other than an airplane and yelled out "ROCKET SHIP!!!!!!!!" as it zoomed past her open window, leaving a loud wwhoooooooshhhhhh sound in its wake.

Maybe she will grow up to be a flight attendant. Or a pilot. Or an engineer who designs airplanes. Or just an airplane enthusiast. Or someone who travels in an airplane.

I'm so excited to see how all of these experiences, big and small, shape the person she becomes.

Learning to Hug

Anyone who knows me well, knows that I'm a "hugger".

I love me a good, heartfelt squish. If there were a job where the service provided was to just hug all day long I would be CEO in a flash, because I do give a good hug (if I do say so myself).

It is therefore my goal to teach Emmy to give good hugs too. Quite honestly, she's never been a super snuggly/huggy'touchy child, but recently she has started wrapping her arms around our necks and grasping tightly instead of just keeping her arms at her sides or gently placing her hands on our shoulders.

Tonight Emmy took her hugging ability to the next level. I happened to be home early and surprised her by standing in the kitchen with my arms open, waiting for a hug when her and Daddy opened the back door. The look of pure excitement on her face when she saw me was priceless (wish I had a pic of that little, happy face to show you) and she ran as fast as her chubby little legs would take her, straight into my arms and squished me. Her little arms wrapped around my neck and nuzzled her face into my ear and it was magic.

It was the best hug of my life.

Away we go...

The Spirit of Adventure is out there!

Try as I may, life has gotten increasingly busy and my ritual of writing down the adventures of my little girl, Emmerson Lemon, has fallen by the wayside. Hence this blog.

As I sit here writing, I wish I had thought of starting this the day we brought her home from the Hospital so I would have a record forever captured in the digital world to look back on, but as they say, Better late than Never.

Here she is. The reason we do everything. The reason we smile, the reason we sleep poorly sometimes, the reason for true happiness in our lives. Emmerson Lemon.

She is silly, fiesty, short-tempered and amazing. She loves to sing.

Her current 3 favourites are:
1. Crinkle Crinkle litta star (Twinkle Twinkle Little Star)
2. Ipspy Bipspy Spider (Itsy Bitsy Spider)
3. Sharon Lois and Bram's Peanut Butter Song

She loves to colour and draw (thank goodness for Crayola Wonder products that only draw on special paper!), throw balls, chase her Daddy and march while we sing "the ants go marching 1 by 1, hurrah....hurrah!".

I hope to post every day or every few days and share some of the adventures we share together - from small ones (a trip to the local playground for 100 slides in a row) to big adventures (an upcoming trip to Boston!). Enjoy.
